Fire Extinguisher Hydrostatic Testing in Houston, TX
Pressure Testing That Keeps Cylinders Safe
A fire extinguisher is a pressure vessel, and over time its cylinder can weaken. Hydrostatic testing checks that it can still safely hold pressure. NFPA 10 requires it at set intervals, and Spartan Fire Protection handles it for businesses across Houston, Katy, Sugar Land, Cypress, Spring, The Woodlands, Pasadena, Pearland and the rest of Greater Houston.
We track the test dates on your extinguishers during inspections, so units are tested before they fall out of compliance.
Hydrostatic Testing Service
What happens to a cylinder that is due:
- Test date checked during inspection
- Unit emptied and the valve removed
- Cylinder pressure-tested
- Recharged and reassembled
- Test label applied
- Returned to its place and logged
How Often Extinguishers Need Testing
The interval depends on the extinguisher type. Under NFPA 10, water, CO2 and wet chemical (Class K) extinguishers are hydrostatically tested every 5 years, and stored-pressure dry chemical extinguishers every 12 years. A unit that fails is taken out of service and replaced.
- 5 years: water, CO2 and Class K
- 12 years: dry chemical
- Dates tracked on every inspection
- Failed units replaced
