Smoke or Heat: Which Detector Goes Where
Smoke detectors give the earliest warning in offices, corridors and sleeping areas. In kitchens, mechanical rooms, garages and other spaces where smoke, steam or dust would cause false alarms, heat detectors are the better choice. We follow NFPA 72 for detector type, spacing and placement.

Smoke and Heat Detector Questions
How often should commercial smoke detectors be replaced?
Smoke detectors have a limited service life, commonly about 10 years; the manufacturer sets it. We check age and condition during inspections and replace detectors that are due.
Why do we keep getting false alarms?
The wrong detector type in a kitchen or dusty area, dirty or aging detectors and wiring faults are common causes. We find the cause and replace or relocate devices as needed.
Can you add detectors to my existing system?
Usually, if the devices are compatible with your panel and it has capacity. We check before we quote.
